Any possibility of Citywing expanding its "wings" as the East of the Uk lacks connections onto the Island, Reintroduction of EMA or possible new destination HUY.
Links Air operated Doncaster-IOM during the summer months before they went "bust" as such, could Citywing fly this route during the summer as it must of been profitable for the airline. 2 rotations a week to begin could give the route testing ground before flying more rotations per week.

Stobart cancels again
Tonight's Stobart to / from MAN cancelled without Flybe stepping up with an aircraft to do a run out of MAN and back to cover.
What a rubbish offering this is now.
Flybe seemed to have washed their hands of the route..
How to turn business away from the island....

Today's first LCY flight delayed for the second day running due, it seems, to technical problems with the Saab. Now seems to be an at least once a week event. Knock on delays or even cancellation affect subsequent sectors, as getting a replacement airframe to the island seems to take around 3 hours. For those with connections MAN may be the better option.
BACF have been playing with the summer timetable again reducing the maximum number of daily flights by the Saab back to 3 a day, but leaving the EJet flights on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Is this a way of dealing with the problem, or has the Saab been redeployed elsewhere for a couple of sectors? Is the expected demand at their ever higher fares just not there? Or is the lack of reliability coming into play?

First rotation today cancelled....
Either there is an ever growing reliability with the Saab aircraft or there is a crewing problem. Whichever it cannot be doing BA's reputation here on the island any good.

The reliabilty is not great, BA do not seem interested in upgrading the flight to more modern equipment of their own subsidiary but you are left with little choice these days to London, the OTP of the evening EZY LGW rotation has been atrocious, you are lucky if you can make central London on the same day.
I too was delayed on Tuesday and was surprised they did not just cancel the rotation, only thing to do is claim the EU compensation, perhaps the constant cost of paying that may provoke BA into some action.

One way of narrowing down the problem is to establish all the other routes served by these aircraft. Then monitor ALL the routes.
If you see that the IOM route is delayed / canx demonstrably more than the other routes - you might have a smoking gun.

I can't see why BA would use their own metal, there just doesn't look to be the demand, probably why they've cut some flights already. I heard the Embraers flying are pretty empty.

The Embraers are only serving midweek, mid-day rotations. Not exactly the busiest times.
And I'm surprised that BA don't better publicise the opportunities for connections at LCY. I'm flying IOM-LCY-AGP next week - leaving Ronaldsway at 7 AM, in Malaga for lunch with luggage checked through.

Any IOM historians that could pop over to this thread to help with my question?

Folks may be as amused as I was when watching this video:

To see that one of the routes they promote with R3 is IOM... that'll be the day. Or Will it?

Hawks from RAF Valley frequently carry out ILS approaches, followed by a go around. Unusual for one to land however unless there's a technical problem. The approach fee is no doubt less than the landing fee! We also get C130s, A400Ms, King Airs and the occasional Typhoon or Tornado. And Defenders and Merlins and Griffins. And sometimes a Chinook. It's quite exciting really!

Many thanks for your quick and interesting response. It may well have been a go around. My enquiry was poorly worded as I only saw the Hawk on approach from my location in Castletown.

I notice the new summer timetable shows EasyJet flying to the island twice every day from Gatwick it will be interesting to see what the service punctuality of this route will be like this year they don't have a good track record. The London City route is now only operating three rotations a day with a slightly revised timetable on the afternoon and evening rotations.
I have made the point several times but the island needs the certainty that the BA flight provides, a regular well timed service. London City is an excellent airport with very easy access to central London and a very quick and efficient operation in both directions.
Please encourage anybody who is travelling to London to use this service and ensure it continues to be maintained at a minimum of three times a day. If its booked several weeks out it offers very good value.

If Easyjet are going to operate two LGWs every day it could have quite an impact on the LCY, especially the afternoon service.
It would be a shame if it were to be affected as Eastern operate a great service on behalf of BA.
If the IOM gov thinks the LCY route is essential for our buisness needs then it would be in their interests to protect it a little, maybe by restricting Easy's Gatwicks . But we have an open skies policy, where only those with the deepest pockets survive.

The best way of ensuring the service is maintained is for people to use it. The more people talk about and promote the service the better in my view. A lot of travellers to London only ever think of Gatwick as a route in and don't understand that the end to end travel time for those going into central London is significantly longer and more expensive around £40 return compared to £6 on the DLR. I can generally do IOM to central London in 3 hours on BA via LCY but it takes 4 hours going via LGW and EZY. Also the times of the BA are much better.

It is generally double-daily, but there is only one on Saturdays across the whole summer (except for either end of TT Week) and only one on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in July and August. This is pretty similar to 2016, although there was period last year, where there were no Saturday flights at all. Overall, not a significant increase in seats, across the season.
BA already adjusted, with the ad hoc Embraer flights from 2016 disappearing and the S2000 only operating 3 rotations, most days. All in all, they seem to have adjusted capacity to meet the modest easyJet changes.
easyJet punctuality is a whole different matter. As far as I can see, to respond to the criticism of the performance of 855/856 last year, they just rescheduled it to operate even later! This means that, on those days with a single flight, the earliest anyone can hope to reach LGW is 22.20!!
