EasyJet Airbus crosswind capability vs ATR's & Dash 8 Q400's?
Today's EasyJet IOM-LGW service delayed due "strong winds in IOM". Aer Lingus and FlyBe getting in and out OK in ATR's, FlyBe doing just fine in their Q400's, and BA City Flyer (Eastern Airways) in their Saab 2000.

TEMPO 2609/2618 4000 RA BKN005
Is the Airbus really that poor in a crosswind, or are Easy just using weather to avoid possible delay compensation to their passengers due some other reason for the delay?

No - yes, fella. You should know by now were at the end of the easy priority list. Always will be til we get a proper and that dont include the Let Airways airline based on the rock, yessir.
Easyjet LGW was on time this afternoon. Stobart BHX late. Moan, moan, moan. It's weather. Get a grip

Runway 21 is unuseable by ezy. However the crosswind limit is 38 knots for the airbus under normal conditions (reduced if standing water on the runway etc).
Think ATR operators have a crosswind limit around 45 knots?!?

RWY 21 can be used by EZY. Have seen a reasonably full flight (around 140 pax) take off on it before. Obviously weather comes into it greatly. Not sure about landing, my guess is probably not possible?

A319 take off distances
Should need less from Ronaldsway with lower fuel and perhaps not a full load.
Could be do-able, just.
However the flight deck would no doubt get a good view of the nails holding up the perimeter fence...

Positive, I couldn't believe in when my colleagues told me.
The link below has a photo of it about to line up

I will also add I spoke to a few EZY crews who didn't think it was doable either. Upon entering the details to get the takeoff performance etc they too were surprised that it was in fact possible
The length of runway required for take-off; for landing; in an emergency is determined by the weight of the aircraft [on the day]; the take-off distance available [TODA] AND the prevailing weather conditions.....particularly surface wind and temperature. Whether the runway is wet or dry or otherwise contaminated also affects the calculation.
So a whole range of variables which vary from flight to flight, from day to day and airfield to airfield.
Just my two penneth which may help some of the less well informed.

I expect that I am not the only one who has noticed that since the S16 schedules began almost two weeks ago, any semblance of punctuality on the EZY855/856 rotation has totally disintegrated. Last summer, it was pretty poor with OTP around 25-30%, but so far this year, it is a total disaster.
Using data from FR24, it is fairly easy to work out that EZY856 has arrived back to LGW, on time, only twice, in eleven attempts. What is more worrying is that the average delay (on the remaining nine occasions) has been 50 minutes plus.
Now this may not be a particularly big deal when a scheduled arrival is in the middle of the day, but when the IOM is already pushed out to the arse end of the flying day, with a planned arrival to LGW of 22.00 any delay can be very inconvenient for onward travel. Last night's arrival was almost two hours late.
Then, there is the question of the cost of late opening at the Ronaldsway. Are EZY paying for this, or is the long suffering Manx Tax payer picking up the tab.
I can't imagine that easyJet are particularly happy or proud of this performance, but they do seem unable, or disinclined, to do anything to arrest the dismal performance.
I'm not expecting anyone here to have any answers or solutions, but I'm just putting these not very pretty facts out there, for comment/reaction.

Tony q - I'll have a moan with you but on the Liverpool route. Looked at a day trip on a Saturday in May - only 1 easy and one flybe on the saturday morning and that's it - 2 flights. What an arsehole aviation on the Rock has become. And theres a glaring market for chittywing who are to afraid to get off their monoploy arses. Off to the Albie to drown my sorrows!

I think it is a new charter destination. There have however already been flights for the previous 2 Fridays using the same aircraft. It has positioned in from Dublin at around 0730 and then departed to Tenerife, via Dublin to take on fuel. The return has been direct.
