De fuelling an aircraft is a difficult thing for an airline to do at an airfield you dont regularly operate to. The fuel has to go back into a bowser from the aircraft tanks and cannot be re-used by another operator as it may have been contaminated by the aircraft tanks. It has to be reloaded to one of your own company aircraft only and the bowser cannot be used again until it has.

Flybe
While some people will see the loss of Flybe as a triumph, I can't help but think it would be utterly devastating for the island.
Who is going to replace them? BMI regional are back on the ropes, easy jet arnt bothered, BA & cityflier are already distancing themselves, citywing...hahaha
With such a drastic cut in frequency, ronaldsway would be little more than a flying club.

IF IoM is affected it could well have a severe impact on the island. The problem is that folk on the island are never really happy with airlines that serve them. No airline is a charity. I have seen moans and groans about almost every airline once they are established on a route even the BA LCY route which initially was the best thing since sliced bread.
Islanders will learn the hard way when Easyjet also have a monopoly and increase their fares substantially.

This is just terrible news for all those concerned. Having endured redundancy myself on more than one occasion I know what the Flybe people will be going through. It is quite amazing that a company which only four years ago had just about the youngest aircraft fleet in Europe, a European network to be envied, and ultra modern engineering facilities in Exeter could now come to this. Airlines across Europe were benefitting from using Flybe's flight crew, cabin crew, and engineering support personnel. More qualified people than me will have the answers, but the rush to become a public company and its timing must have had a detrimental effect. Best of luck for the future to all the Flybe personnel on the island and further afield.

Of course the floatation had a detrimental effect. It blew the curtain open, and exposed everything above the middle management layer as totally incompetent. Suddenly they had to please the shareholders and not just themselves.
Sadly it's the rotten ******** at the top who leave with their pockets stuffed. Everyone at the bottom, the ones who made it a great place to work, are left broken.
I personally think the Bacon deal was the start of the end. They took on too much, grew to quickly. All the little empires building up and slowly breaking down without communication.
If walker was turning in his grave before, he's in the rating detent now.

Its true slapdash8, and whilst its no consolation to those affected this management team do seem to know what they are doing. And in order to correct many mistakes, tough decisions have to be made.
Obviously head office are being hit hard too, and until the full process has been completed none of us will know how the operation will be affected. Just wish all the best to those leaving the company as a result.

Iom folk have moaned about by Flybe since the day they started following the baconnect deal.
If the routes are going its because no one is using them - that's not just the fault of the carrier but also the airport, local tourism boards and the passengers for not using the damn services in the first place?

So it will look like this in 2014? 5 airlines, 10 destinations, 24 flights on weekdays?
Easyjet: LPL (1x), LGW (2x)
flybe: MAN (4x), LPL (4x), BHX (2x)
citywing: BLK (2x), GLO (2x), NCL (1x), BHD (3x)
Aer Arann: DUB (2x)
BACF: LCY (1x)
In the long term, I would put a question mark behind NCL, LCY and maybe BE on LPL. Not sure about the performance of BHX. Looks to me as if the rest is quite viable.

A bit optimistic there I feel.
EZY is daily to lpl and 9 flights per week to LGW with none of Saturdays after June.
Flybe : doubt the schedule will be as frequent as you suggest even if the routes survive.
Citywing : No real idea but they are rumoured to be starting double daily to Scotland
Cityflyer : The government is desperate to get them to do at least double daily to LCY so it may actually increase from what you say.
Open skies policy and a small island a winning combination

I'd suggest Eastern maybe one to contact, they have ops at LCY in the guise of BA.
Sadly looking at the last IOM airport traffic report, it shows massive declines on Citywing routes, the battle on London adn Liverpool with EZY and BE is draining the life out of other routes. While the loss of Scotland passengers is showing up on MAN and LPL numbers, i.e. it would seem pax to EDI and GLA now using those services instead. It makes perfect sense for Citywing to do Scotland, much wiser route than LCY or London airports.

Thanks I deleted the post as I issued it, realising that I mis read Cityflyer for Citywing.
I think all will sit tight and wait and see what EZY come up with.
Citywing to EDI and GLA is a no brainer, if they have the equipment to do it. The last IOM traffic report shows them seeing big declines in passenger numbers. EZY V BE on IOM not helping them much.

I'm saddened that the IOM-LTN link has come to an end after being operated by a host of carriers (Manx, BA, Aer Arran, Flybe...) over many years.
I hope that another carrier can be found to give the route a go though I guess it's pretty unlikely any time soon
