Looks like Luton has got this one! The following text is on the Air Turquoise's website and says they have chosen Luton :"A Londres, Air Turquoise desservira l'aéroport de Luton."

Seems to be a trend forming here with Luton picking up the mini airliners while new services from airlines using bigger aircraft go to Stansted. Wizz being the only exception.

Moderator comment: Airline webites are advertising. Advertising is against the rules of PPruNe. The Mods are getting a bit tired of cleaning them out of these forums daily. If it continues to happen the entire post will be deleted and the poster given some time off from PPruNe to think about it.

There are numerous search engines available on the net. Typing "Air Torquoise" into them will yield good results.

Until such time as LTN's runway is slot-constrained 12 hours a day, it's frankly, irrelevant what size aircraft operate scheduled services from that Airport. Far more important is that the services are viable, reliable and well patronised. LCY and SOU are two success stories built on airlines operating 'small' aircraft. Even LGW 20 years ago handled predominately narrow-body aircraft types (agreed, there were some notable airline operator exceptions there) and it still managed to operate as a successful and profitable airport business.

Just remember, size has nothing to do with it...

It has been reported in the press that LADACAN (Luton and District Association for the Control of Aircraft Noise) want public enquiries for both phase one and phase two of the airports expansion plans. According to LADACAN’s website phase one, which they agree will be within the airports existing boundaries will increase passenger numbers from 7.5 million to 22 million even before phase two is started.

Annual pax figures already set to reach 10m by the end of this year and the Bedfordshire County Structure Plan permits 15m annual passengers at Luton, anyway.

It's doubtful if 22m PPA would be sustainable within the exisiting wholly inadequate terminal area and road system, anyway so LADACAN is probably just kite flying.

However, with easyJet having confirmed that by Autumn 2006 it'll have no less than 20 aircraft based at Luton, the 10m PPA figure seems likely to be passed by the Summer of 2007.

And before anyone asks where/how these aircraft will be accommodated, plans are well advanced to regain airline use of all South Apron stands and to relocate that part of the Harrods' operation elesewhere on the Airport.

Is this more confirmed or based 'spare' aircraft now in the figures?
It would be interesting to total up typical overnighters this Autumn for TOM, MON, FCA, EZY, RYR etc.

RYR (I think) usually have x 4 aircraft night-stopping at LTN.

MON usually have x 4 - x 2 A320s and x 2 B757s

TOM/FCA - who knows? But undoubtedly x 2 TOM and x 1 FCA aircraft at the very least.

If Aer Arran does go ahead and create a base at LTN (as is rumoured both inside and outside the airline) then there could be x 1 or x 2 ATRs also night-stopping.

Not much space for diversions; or for early-morning arrivals when the departures are delayed due tech/ATC slots/weather/wrong head counts, etc!!!

LTNman has published the December stats.
But how much will January figures be affected by Ryanair cancellations, which seem to be regular and extensive? The current 4 FR 738s arrived last January, so year on year growth comparisons will start reducing now.

Ebenezer mentions night-stopping aircraft.
TOM will have 3 based (occasionally 4) in S06, FCA one. However, these are normally operated 24 hours, with inbound arrivals in the 0400-0700 period. So the period of worst congestion will be 0400-0600, by which time the first EZY and FR depart. Also, isn't the EZY Athens an overnighter?

The problem with these mega threads is that it is a major task trying to hunt out an old post but somewhere on here it has been mentioned that 4 months of runway resurfacing work starts March 1st and continues to June 30th. It then starts again with another 2 months of work from October 1st to November 30th. The runway work has been priced at £17 million.

It will be interesting to see how the inclusive tour companies cope with 6 hours a night of runway closures for the start of the summer season.

Allegedly (!!) all LTN's operators were consulted by LLAO well in advance and so should have made appropriate re-arrangements.

Not too sure though, what "well in advance" meant...

With the recent 'Revolution' announcement by Ryanair, the onus will transfer from the Check In staff to ensure compliance with the dangerous goods/anyone had access to your baggage etc rules, to security staff scanning hand luggage. This i guess, will create additional queues at the security check, negating the wait at check in?

I do not even pretend to understand just how airports such as Luton, will deal with this mass enforced change to check in habits introduced by Ryanair. What is clear however, queues will become longer going through security unless the airports have additional staff. I assume that Ryanair will not be paying any additional fees to the airport once their check in procedures change?

Flying from Luton will be bad enough, but can you imagine the security delays at Ryanairs largest base, just 30 miles from Luton?

Some airport operators must now be shuddering at the cost implications too them!

"Mr Bear, has anyone had access, tampered with your bag or has anyone asked to to carry anything for them since you did your on-line check in"?

I have to conclude, that will the handling agents be doing the hand luggage, body screening on behalf of the airport operator? I doubt it?

The three month consultation of the airport's masterplan closes today. Some protests are expected at the airport from the nimby's, as many are expected to deliver their responses by hand. The final Masterplan document is expected in March, after consideration of responses arising from the consultation. Interesting times ahead.

Interesting times ahead.
Especially as it's rumoured that Luton Borough Council (LBC) is desperately seeking an accommodation with LLAO that will enable the airport's future development to take place within the council's area of jurisdiction i.e. not 'over the border' in Hertfordshire. This could include an extension of 400 metres to the eastern end of the exsiting runway taking it to just under 2600 metres plus a full-length parallel taxiway.

In return, the concession agreement might be extended from the current 30 years to 50 years and money might be 'found' for a contribution to local road improvements. LBC is also rumoured to have been seeking an open market valuation of the Airport although the notion of selling off such a local asset wouldn't exactly appeal to the left-wingers on the Council.

Interesting times ahead, indeed!!

So where would a new terminal go if they stayed North of the runway? Anyway the town and county borders are going to be changed soon to take in more Hertfordshire land for Luton housing. It won't take that much effort to draw a new boundary around an enlarged airport.
