I'm really quite confused with exactly what is going on with Air Scotland now. What I thought the situation was, was that the airline was really a travel agent who contracted other airlines to operate their flights (Electra & Air Holland) but I'm now under the impression that Air Scotland is simply the marketing brand of Greece Airways which is owned by the owners of Greece Airways.

Can anyone tell me what is what with the company?
Is this airline scheduled or charter? They have a very confusing schedule, and seem to be operating it with just one Boeing 752 leased from Thomas Cook Airlines.

Thanks for your help.

This looks like a move to increase aircraft utilisation and I really can't see 2x weekly working on either route. Sorry but can't see this lasting at all.

Also given Air Scotland's supposed record in delays and given the recent EU ruling on passenger compensation they could end up running these flights at a huge loss!

Air Scotland should stick to being a charter airline instead at playing at becoming an effective loco.

The Air Scotland website says they are a "trading name of Greece Airways". Presumably there has been a change of owner there then.

Going against EZY and KL with such a low frequency can't make much sense.

If they do want to go down the European major city route, would it not have been better to have just targetted CDG, which still has no "proper" route from GLA, with at least a near daily service?

This certainly seems like a rather expensive experiment in its current form, so let's see what happens.

I would tend to agree with you jabird - the AMS route seems pretty silly in going up against 2 established strong carriers with such limited frequency . The days of operation for the AMS route appear to be not the best either - Wed + Sat - not really much good for people wanting weekend breaks!

Paris seems a bit better (ops Mon + Fri), but I would also agree that they should have targeted Paris with maybe 4x weekly instead of the limited ops to both.

As others have said, given they already have a poor punctuality record, one has to worry about the potential for significant delays (and resultant bad press) from operating their schedule with only one aircraft.

Air Scotland have one B757-200 that flies for them, it is not from TCX, that is what was used a while back.
They now use an ex FCA aircraft.

I would imagine they will be selling 3 or 4 day holidays to the cities in question. Is that not what they do on their other destinations served?.

Air Scotland and Greece Airways are owned and always have been by the same person. Flying to CDG or AMS daily as has been suggested would require a second aircraft. That would be a VERY expensive experiment! As it is, if the routes are cancelled, no big problem. However if A/c #2 is purely for CDG/AMS and is cancelled, then that is a huge problem. I'm not so sure they are exactly targeting EZY or KLM pax. Maybe more of the "boys weekend away" market, but I'm not sure at all. Also if the price is right i'm pretty sure people will travel regardless of which airline it is.

Air Scotland/Greece Airways are 100% a scheduled airline. Air Scotland have also said any further expansion will be from Glasgow to European city destinations. Good news for GLA.

I have tried to email both Greece Airways & Air Scotland from some of the email address provided on their website, and I'm getting the response from msn hotmail that both email addresses could not be found. Does anyone know what the problem is?
