It is very much a possibility; Emirates is looking more at the stretched -9 model than the current -3 and -8; however, EK wants the aircraft stretched by a few rows, so they're currently haggling about that; Boeing is concerned that if it stretches the aircraft too far, it will compromise the range. Presumably EK isn't too bothered about range, since the aircraft will mostly be operated on current 332 routes.

Qatar and ILFC are also currently looking at the -9.
