anyone know which a/c excel will use to fly to ssh??? the 737 400 and 800 are both out of the question??

I was told that the a/c Excel are going to be using for most routes is the Islandsflug that was here last year but has been tarted up into Excel colours inside and out, lets hope they gave it a damn good service, be suprised if they can use that on a 5.5 hr flight to SSH, I would imagine they'll have a 737-800 come in to do it, The Air Malta that's being used on behalf of Excel/Freedom flights is an A320 incase anyone was wandering, FCA engineers looking after it.

It will be interesting to see if excel can do SSH direct, I know that FCA have problems reaching PFO or LCA if the pressure drops at BRS.

I think Astreaus have done a good job of reaching BJL all winter though

The 8th easyJet a/c to be based from July and three new routes - Pisa, Inverness and Murcia.

Bristol will be easy's largest UK base outside London.

It might be if the flight was once weekly instead of daily - same would apply to BFS - Inverness starting in July except once fortnightly would suffice here!

I think there are many who were suprised at how many new routes supported 737/A319 operations, so the proof will be in the figures....

ALLMCC we do 6 rotations a day to Scotland with epic loads. An additional daily to the Highlands seems easily doable.

I think I remember someone saying BRS BFS couldn't support a thrice daily service at one point as well..

Well It just shows rumours can't always be believed! What happen to the ATH/ORK/IBZ/CGN etc that were rumoured. I was a bit shocked by the Pisa and Inverness but hay if anyone can make it work Easyjet can. Hopefully we might get a Basel service aswell in the near future with them having a base there now.

Firstchoice are due to release their summer 2006 brochures on the 13th. I bet after all the hype it will be allmost the same as this year!

Think you ncould be right Terrier, tis all quiet on the First Choice front, think personally they may be missing a big oportunity to make money, but hey ho!

I disagree, I think there might be a few changes to the FC summer '06, particularly longhaul. Not really sure ho many 767's they are going to be operating in '06, but it willl be more than now.

Dont think the regionals will be much different. There was a rumour that EXT would be an official base as of '06 - me thinks not.

I think that if FCA have decided on any longhaul from BRS next summer then there would be more rumours/info going round, it seems to have died a death just like the same rumours last year, hope that Windsheers right and proves us wrong though, c'mon FCA come up with the goodies!

And as for base at EXT, who knows? Apparently they've had a few probs down there this winter rangeing from low revenue at check-in to damage to a/c a few times from positioning of steps, doesn't seem a good way to entice a 1st based charter airline, especially when theres also rumours of a NCL base floating round and NCL can accomodate them a lot better than the current facilities available in EXT, also FCA already do long haul from NCL.

All the more reason to operate from another base. I would like to think that frequent Long Haul routes from Brs are not that far away. Who Knows what next year will hold especially with the possible news of EXT and BRS being owned by one. There could be some major changes coming up!

I think you are right re: longhaul BRS. We would have heard something by now if it was going to happen in 06.

I think though, if any of the charters wouldf attempt longhaul at BRS it would be FCA. Cant really see Thomson going for it.

No Thomsons wouldn't, the only charter showing growing intrest in BRS at the mo is Excel if you ask me.

There was a very interesting programme on BBC 2 yesterday about the package holiday downturn.

Part of the programme followed the Thomson Holidays boss around and a main strand of their fight back against the do-it-yourself holidaymaker (more of these now than package holidaymakers) is to find more exotic destinations beyond the 'reach' of low cost airlines.

They went to Sharm el Sheikh with the Thomson boss in the programme and the clear impression given was that this and other (unnamed) longish haul destinations will feature more and more.

There was an earlier post in this thread saying there will be two Excel weekly flights to Sharm next winter from BRS. I don't know if this has been confirmed or whether they would be in addition to the Thomson flight flown this last winter.

The Banjul flight was increased to twice weekly for much of last winter from the previous years' single weekly rotations.

Taking all this into account it would be disappointing, and perhaps surprising, if BRS missed out on the long haul package holiday revolution that was confidently predicted in the programme.

I suppose there are always those who will come up with the R-word as a reason why BRS might not be included.
