To comply with ICAO standards, LHR now has a new taxiway and stand designation system that contains less information than the old one. We now know which terminal a stand is associated with - but not which cul-de-sac it is in (which for pilots, is actually pretty useful). "Outer" and "Inner" have been replaced with "A" and "B".

I'm sorry, but I don't consider this progress.

I heard that there were various options presented to BAA and with their "money first, flying second" mentality, they plumped for the cheapest one.
