Yonks ago at Manch, I used to arrive on a motorcycle. If it was fine/sunny I was waved through by "security". If it was raining, I was stopped and asked to produce my ID.

Not terminal one I know but I've just booked to take the family to the med this spring and according to the god awful thomsonflights site I've paid £0.00 security levy for all three of us. You get what you pay for I suppose!

I applied for a security guard job at MAN in January and was offered a job after an interview and medical. I have been waiting for my CTC to clear, but they now tell me that all positions have been filled and that I am only on the waiting list!

What is going on over there? I don’t know if I should wait for the job or if I should try to find another job (I had already given notice to my previous employer). Does anyone know about any other opportunities at MAN?

Try the airport job centre ,ground floor Commonwealth house, loads of jobs at this time of year.

Also judging by the turnover of security staff last year, I dont think it will be long before they want you anyway.

Good luck

security

In JER, for a little airport 3-4 big flights (for us 3 735s and a 146) going through security can cause queues.
We have 3 security arches and in the summer 2 might be manned at one time but not often!
We as staff cannot take any cutlery through when certain shifts are on, even if bags are to be locked away in an office and fair enough they seem to be doing their jobs more than some staff at MAN that people have mentioned.
There is quite clearly a lack of staff and like most airports no-one wants to foot the bill for more.

Pull up a sand bag !

I remember when I first worked at MAN in 1979, I used to drive through the old fuel farm gate (where T3 is now) with a nod from the guard and park my car under pier C, when anything interesting was due in, workers brought their kids in for a look round ! Those were the days !
