Other London Area & Southern England Airports - Which Will Be Used?

I just read about Britannia's latest low-cost venture using 737s - possibly based at Coventry. Obviously LCY, Bournmouth, Cardiff and Southampton have seen a lot of passenger expansion recently with the LCCs. I know that Manston is used for freight but poised for passenger growth at some point.

So, where do you see the expansion over the next 5-10 years? Coventry is a good example of an underutilized airport in a somewhat population-dense area - a pretty good catchment area... Southampton and Bournmouth provide good catchment as well.

Which airports do you see as potential growth airports in Southern England in the coming years? Will Manston or Southend work? Which airports will be "hot" expansion airports in the coming years?

If Bournemouth could get a few more routes to boost the passenger figures than then new terminal that was promised could be built.

Southend could handle traffic if the runway widenning extension goes ahead. However if the bid fails it will continue as a GA / engineering field. On a good day it can provide quick connections to east London or routes off the M25.

Manston could do all this and more but is still a long way from central London and clearly there is not enough work to furnish Kent alone.

More likely that Biggen could extend its use to LC flights.

LVL CHG ..... Yeah...Manston could work. It has a nice Terminal, decent length runway, (2750m) can handle Hundreds of thousands of extra Pax, as it ain't handling any now. All the infrastructure is there.... trouble is, the place is at the end of the M2/A2...the end of the known world.
Now...if they could just move it, say 40 miles to the West, next to a quaint little village called Airwick Gatport, it could REALLY take off big time. This airport has nearly been going to make it for aeons. The only peole who truly made it work were Seabourne, and then only because it provided (Then) Customs Clearance for their trucks, and because they managed to negotiate a 125 year lease on the Civil side which they later sold to Wiggins, who, fair play to them, have poured a lot of concrete into the new apron. If only they could get rid of the dead Russki freighters.!!
Lydd tried the same thing.....same result.
