Here's a
in which he suggests (certainly doesn't conclude) that there was a problem with the right brake.

Many older aircraft would not climb away with drag dangling and some older aircraft required the live throttle to be retarded in the case of an engine failure to maintain control and some required the attitude to be lowered to maintain speed and control authority, some required you to leave the gear down because when it rotated on retraction the drag increased. Technology has improved dramatically but the old universal set of immediate actions taught was very very good Power Drag Trim fly the aeroplane then later on think about what has happened.
