W00 ... Whilst in the Army at Sandhurst in the early 60's he learnt to fly at White Waltham. He was instructed by a a S/L Derek Homer. His first solo was in the summer of 62 on a Chipmunk. So I guess it must have been a truncated "Wings" course but I'm not sure what other fixed wing types he flew to qualify. Apparently he is also helicopter rated.
