Afriqiyah Airways/Libyan Airlines Fleets Damaged

Im wondering will these airlines get off the ground again once Tripoli is secured the air ban lifted but it seems Afriqiyah Airways and Libyan Airlines have sustained serious damage to their fleet with the following confirmed so far;

Afriqiyah Airways: A300B4-620 (5A-IAY) Destroyed, an A330 was also destroyed reg not confirmed and i understand an A320 has been badly damaged on the ramp.

Libyan Airlines: A300B4-622 (5A-DLZ) Destroyed.

Jack,

Fleet can be replaced, even with leased stock on a short-term basis, but my concern would be over ownership. Both are owned by 'Libyan African Aviation Holding Company', which afaik is owned by the Libyan government. The hope would be for a smooth transition of assets from the old regime to the new, but I think that is optimistic.

Plan was to merge them, but I'm not sure of the reasons why there are two separate airlines - Afrriqiyah sees itself as a 'pan-African', rather than 'state' carrier, but many state carriers have regional or global ambitions. Tripoli is reasonably located as a transfer point for flights between Europe and Africa, but not between African states, as it is too far north.

My brother's father-in-law was due to fly with them in May - getting a refund is very messy as OTA and credit card company want to pass the buck, but he was repeatedly told right up until the day after departure was due that the flight was operating!

Seeing as we are supposed to be on the same side as the rebels would it not be feasible to drop the no fly zone for a while and fly out these vunerable assets.

Or does the cynic in me say that its in the interests of the western aircraft builders to see these new aircraft get trashed

Has the A320 for Afriqiyah been written off? or is the plane fixable. (by the video 5A-ONC seems to be OK, for now.)

MAN777 you're right, it's a shame that they didn't fly out the 'bus's to a safer haven especially the A330.

When the first Gulf war started Iraqi Airways flew many of the a/c to neighbouring Amman where you still can see an array of 707's 727's A300's etc that have been stored and never used. The dark green paint has now turned to a very pale almost pastel green because of the sun!

5A-ONK has been damaged but by the looks of things it looks fixable.

Not true 5A-LAH A320 flew yesterday as did LAI
These are the only 2 I checked but they seem to be flying to Tunis and Cairo
