Question First class med expires, if I don't fly???

Hey you all,

Couldn't find anything on this: An associate of mine said that a Class 1 expired, if the holder did not put flying time on...

That said I was issued a Class 1 about half a year ago and will have to go thru renewal soon. However, I haven't done any flying yet. I plan on getting my PPL in the summer tho.

Does it mean they're going to take it away and I'd have to go thru an AMC again? Just can't believe this, as none of the docs with the AMC I went thru a year ago had said anything like that.

So what's the deal? Any thoughts in this?

Cheers!

But since you don't need your Class 1, and when it expires it becomes a Class 2 with the same privileges and validities, why waste the time and money on renewing your Class 1. You can renew it at any time in the next five years...see recent thread on the subject.

Whirlybird,

Time difference is no issue, since renewal is only once a year. Guess I can handle that... The costs for renewing the Class 1 are covered in my health insurance plan. Thanks though!

The question was whether that bloke I talked to had a point?

No he doesn't. The amount of flying you do is irrelevant to the validity of your medical.
